Lo' Flame is based on the harmonic progression of "All of Me," and features the trumpet section. The theme follows a swinging opening of the rhythm section. This arrangement of Peter Erskine's "Bulgaria" is a real tour de force for the entire ensemble, and always brings the audience to its feet. It features solo space for trombone, soprano sax, piano (or optional vibes), and drums, as well as a wild and exciting section with five soprano saxophones in unison, reflecting the intense feeling of certain kinds of Bulgarian folk dances. Clarinet may be substituted for some of the sopranos, if necessary.

"Burungkaka" is an Indonesian folk song which is known throughout Malaysia. It is about an old parrot which sits near the window, singing. The children make fun of it in a good-natured manner. Originally arranged in 1997 for virtuoso jazz trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff and the WDR Big Band by Bill Dobbins. Albert had recorded the piece many years earlier on a trio recording of his. Saxes double on flute, clarinet, or bass clarinet. First alto doubles on soprano. Substitute saxophone parts are provided on the reverse side of the woodwind parts. First trumpet goes to C (2 ledger lines above staff).

"La Curandera Negrita" is basically a minor blues chart. Though this piece is written in 6/8, it is perhaps more accurately felt in a lilting triplet divided 4/4---with the dotted quarter receiving the pulse of a quarter note. Embrace the "clustery" sound of some of the voicings, and rehearse them slowly so your ears grow accustomed to the "rubs" sounding natural. The bass line changes its underlying pulse more frequently than in an ordinary Latin setting. This chart is longer than most high school-level material. Great interpretive latitude is encouraged so that each performance can sound different. First trumpet: C (2 ledger lines above staff).

A medium up-standard based on "Easy to Love." "Love Is Easy" is written in a relaxed swing feel, and has solo space for drums, trumpet, and tenor sax (optional written solos are provided). The ensemble material starts with a unison octave line that leads to the final ensemble material. The pedal point section that is used at the end of the form finishes the piece.

"Shufflin' in F" is a medium swinging blues chart that opens with a short vamp figure. The theme is stated contrapuntally leading to the first ensemble figure which is a send-off to the bass solo. Similar ensemble material is then used as a send-off for the alto solo (optional written solos are provided for both soloists). The opening vamp material is then used for the final ensemble before the restatement of the theme.
