Description: Windsong is a gentle piece written in the romantic style for the mid-elementary student. Technical skills covered include: legato, phrasing of right hand melody and left hand harmony, dynamics-pp, p, mp, mf, f and crescendos and decrescendos; left-hand crossovers, arpeggio crossovers, ritardando, D.C. al fine markings and damper pedal. Purpose: My purpose was to compose a piece for the mid-elementary student that was beautiful melodically, encouraging expressive playing. This is an excellent choice for an adult student. Suggestions for Instruction: • Have the student practice measures 1-8, hands separately, emphasizing the shape of the phrase; then play the hands together. • Practice the left hand separately in measures 17-20, working the crossover notes, then adding the right hand. • Make sure the student observes all dynamic markings for expressive playing.
