In this video, master percussionist Richie Gajate-Garcia builds upon the basic concepts of Latin rhythm studied in the video Close-Up on Congas. Richie begins by showing essential patterns used in playing bongo, timbales, maracas, guiro, and cowbell, while explaining their place in the context of a Latin rhythm section. Richie takes the viewer through the basic rhythm exercises, working logically towards the more intricate patterns. In addition to the exercises, Close-Up on Bongos and Timbales showcases a full salsa band (including Luis ContT on congas) performing three songs that you can play along with.
